The Ulan Muqir was founded in 1957 on the Xilingol Grassland in Inner Mongolia as China’s first cultural troupe with the mission of “performing whatever the people need.” “Ulan” means red, and “Muqir” refers to a horseback troupe. They have long traveled deep into the grasslands, bringing songs, dances, dramas, folk arts, and films to herders. Without fixed stages, they often performed on horseback or in yurts, using sincere art to inspire people and convey the Party’s voice and warmth. Over the decades, they have traversed the vast steppes and deserts, earning the title of “Red Cultural Cavalry on the Grasslands,” and becoming an important model of art in service of the people in China.
